AIS Construction Equipment is pleased to recognize “Women in Construction” week, March 6-12 and support the efforts of the National Association of Women in Construction (NWAIC) to raise awareness of opportunities available to women within the industry.

If you have driven through Detroit then you are well aware of one of the city’s major issues, thousands of vacant and blighted houses. According to The Detroit News, more than 1 in 3 Detroit properties have been foreclosed. Most of these homes were never re-occupied, leaving desolate blocks and crime infested streets. In an effort to start the process to rebuild Detroit, the mayor sought state and federal grants to demolish the dilapidated houses and give these neighborhoods a fresh start.

Congratulations to Seth Earl, winner of Michigan Farm Bureau’s 2015 Young Farmer Discussion Meet December 2nd at MFB’s 96th Annual Meeting held at the Amway Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI. AIS was proud to award a $2,000 cash prize to Earl in recognition of his achievement.

June 22-26 was an exciting week for our very own AIS technician, Robert Beier. During this week Robert was able to travel to Louisville, Kentucky and participate in the SkillsUSA competition for “Diesel Equipment Technology”. Rob competed against 40 other participants from all over the country in 14 different diagnosis and repair categories. Out of 40 other technicians, Rob came in second place and took home the silver medal in his competition class.

STEP officially kicked off June 9th with 8 future technicians beginning their intensive 9 week training at the AIS Lansing Branch. The participants for STEP were chosen through an application process and their attendance at high school career and technical education programs relating to heavy equipment or truck repair and operation.

On Monday, June 22, a tornado swept through Decker, Michigan and destroyed a significant part of the Devor dairy farm. As shown in these pictures, several barns, numerous pieces of farm equipment, trailers, and a farmhouse were all torn to shreds within a matter of only three minutes.

On Friday, June 5th, AIS Construction Equipment will be hosting a Mine Safety Refresher Training Course at the Lansing branch. This valuable learning experience will be one that encourages informed decision making and safe work habits that will result in many years of safe mining. The material delivered in this course is based upon extensive industry research, insights from experienced miners, and MSHA best practices.
